Countdown to Zero

Acclaimed New Film Depicts Dire Nuclear Threat

“We wanted to make a movie about one of the greatest threats to humanity, the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Nuclear security is an issue that affects every one of us, regardless of nationality, religion or political affiliation. Our goal with this film is to make this issue something people will talk about and demand action.”—Director of Countdown to Zero, Lucy Walker

There are more than 23,000 nuclear weapons in the world — enough to destroy the world hundreds of times over. Russia and the U.S. possess the vast majority of these weapons— Russia with about 12,000 and the U.S. approximately 9,613 nuclear bombs.

As the New START agreement with Russia comes up for a vote in the Senate and President Obama affirms his pledge to make nuclear disarmament a priority of his administration, Countdown to Zero provides a timely perspective on the history of the atomic bomb and makes a compelling case for worldwide disarmament. Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev, Pervez Musharraf and Tony Blair are just a few of the many international icons in this film stressing the need to take action now.
